Who We Are

Dublin, Georgia, has long been known as a music-lovers town.  There has always been outstanding music in its churches and schools, and since February 6, 1963, there has been community-oriented music.  On that day, fifteen local residents organized the Dublin Association of Fine Arts.  The first years’ programs featured local artists, who were outstanding in their fields and who were well received, resulting in a spectacular growth in membership and a continuous offering of quality programs.

On March 29, 1984, the Heart of Georgia Community Concert Association was formed as an affiliate of the Columbia Artists’ Community Consort Organization, which sponsored tours for both nationally and internationally known performers, enabling high-quality programs to be presented in small communities at a reasonable cost.  Although this arrangement worked successfully for many years, eventually major changes in the Columbia Artists’ group led the association to pursue the alliance of the Heart of Georgia Community Concert group with Fine Arts.

Finally, on September 16, 2002, the Dublin-Laurens Arts Council (DLAC) was formed by combining the Heart of Georgia Community Concert Association with the Dublin Association of Fine Arts to continue to bring quality musical performances to Dublin. 

All residents of Dublin/Laurens County and its surrounding area are eligible for membership in the council by annual subscription purchase.  Residents may also purchase tickets for individual events without belonging to DLAC – but it is more cost-effective to do so!  The fiscal year for the council is from July 1st through June 30th of each year; individuals, businesses, corporations, and associations are invited to join.

In addition to offering high-quality musical performances to the community,  DLAC has the further goals of fostering the teaching and appreciation of music in the public schools and participation in the development and maintenance of community concert facilities.

The Directors and Officers of the council are elected at the annual business meeting of the members.  They serve without pay or any other remuneration and number 18-24.  All affairs of the Council, such as program selections and dues structure, are governed by the Constitution and By-laws.
